IDEC SPORT’S RECORD RATIFIED

The World Speed Sailing Record Council, the organisation in charge of sailing records has confirmed the extraordinary performance achieved by the Maxi Trimaran IDEC-Sport sailed by Francis Joyon, Alex Pella, Bernard Stamm, Clément Surtel, Gwénolé Gahinet and Sébastien Audigane.

Their time of 40 days, 23 hrs, 30 minutes and 30 seconds is now the official round the world reference time from Ushant to Ushant via the three capes, Good Hope, Leeuwin and the Horn.

The WSSRC has also ratified the following data
Dates: from 16th December start at 0819hrs UTC to 26th January 0749hrs UTC.
The international body has recorded the theoretical distance of 21,600 miles with an average speed of 21.96 knots.
Out on the water, Francis Joyon and his men sailed 26,412 miles at an average speed of 26.85 knots.
They smashed the previous record held by Loïck Peyron and the crew of the maxi trimaran Banque Populaire V by 4 days, 14 hrs, 12 minutes and 23 seconds.
